VICTIMS of the police officer rapist Adam Carruthers claim their statements to members of his own force investigating his crimes were altered before being given to the Crown Office.

Dumfries and Galloway police have now launched an investigation into the damaging allegations concerning the inquiry carried out in 1998 which resulted in no action being taken against Carruthers.

Carruthers was found guilty 10 days ago of raping two women while serving as a sergeant in Langholm and is suspected of sexually assaulting up to 20 others.

He was only convicted after a neighbouring police force was brought in to re-examine allegations of serious misconduct.
